| New changes to Immigration Rules have come into
force |
|
|
In order to encourage companies to fill vacant posts with
settled workers, changes have been made to Tiers 1 and
2 of the Points-Based System on Immigration.
Tier 1 deals
with highly skilled migrants and allows applicants to come
to the UK without the guarantee of work, provided they
can satisfy a points-based test. The changes mean that
applicants will require a Masters degree qualification and
be on a minimum salary of £20,000pa.
Tier 2 deals with
skilled migrants and the changes relate to the 'resident
labour market' test. Originally employers had to first
advertise jobs to settled workers via Jobcentre Plus. This
requirement has now been extended to include advertising
using a method permitted by the relevant industry code of
practice. If you are recruiting migrant workers you
should ensure that you obtain proof that they are eligible
to work in the UK.
